"Virtuous Globalization" is about the Slow
Movement gripping the planet. "Being Slow"
means to control the rhythms of your own
life.
The Slow movement has no central
headquarters or website. There is no
single leader or political party to carry its
message. Many people decide to slow
down without ever feeling part of a cultural
trend. Gradually, every act of deceleration
gives another push to the Slow Movement.
We are enslaved by speed and have
succumbed to the same insidious virus:
Fast Life, which disrupts our habits and
pervades the privacy of our homes.
Cities are revamping the urban landscape
to encourage people to drive less and walk
more. In the workplace, millions are
pushing for a better balance between work
and life. Children are moving out of the fast
lane, as parents lighten their schedules.
Even in the bedroom, people are enjoying
forms of erotic deceleration.
The Slow Movement contradicts the
anti-globalization crusade. Rather, slow
activists are not out to destroy the capitalist
system, but to give it a human face.
A genuinely Slow world implies nothing
less than a lifestyle revolution.
